indiagold (2021–23)
I led growth marketing at indiagold, a doorstep gold-loan company whose new users came almost entirely from loan-manager referrals. My job was to prove paid marketing could scale. Within 6 months, Google and Facebook ads brought in ~20% of new customers.
When RBI raised rates in mid-2022 and disbursements fell, I turned to SEO: a roadmap of 10+ programmatic utility pages (gold rates, interest-rate comparisons, city pages), personalised at scale and reviewed by hand.
Traffic went from 3,000 visitors in Sep 2022 to 300,000 by Aug 2023, with 2,000+ high-intent leads a month. The team: one engineer and one growth intern.
Mylo (2017–21)
At Mylo I led Facebook marketing, conversion optimisation and web revenue, and first learned product management and growth. I joined the bootstrapped team of 5 and learned directly from the founder, who pushed ambitious people hard and backed them when they stumbled.
We built a content and community engine users loved: 20%+ D30 retention in 2018–19, a year into the app. Then I scaled user acquisition 100x+ over 4 years, mostly through Facebook Ads. Users came for the content and stayed for the community.
I moved on after Series A. Mylo raised a Series B in 2022, led by W Health Ventures.
Indian Oil Corp. (2017)
A Grade A officer job at a government corporation was my parents' dream for me. Both were lifers in government jobs. It wasn't mine. When Vinit Garg was starting Mylo, I joined his bootstrapped startup at a 60% pay cut. My family disagreed. Betting on myself and an ambitious mentor turned out well.
XLRI (2015–17)
At XLRI Jamshedpur I got carried away chasing my own interests and started with 3 fail grades and a 4.3/8 GPA. Those grades were a mirror. I relearned how to learn and finished at 5.7/8.
Becoming multidimensionally jacked
I grew up the son of government employees, in a family of five where most of the money went to the basics. My first real job finally gave me the time, money and freedom to chase my curiosity.
At bootstrapped Mylo I learned Python from a Udemy course because I could use it the next day, and found I could switch between product manager, coder and growth marketer as needed. indiagold tested how far a one-person marketing team could scale.
My conclusion: early on, it doesn't take a big team to deliver 10x. I lean on capital, code and media over headcount, and on a holistic life shaped by Naval Ravikant and Dan Koe's idea of being "multidimensionally jacked". Extreme specialisation serves large systems well. It doesn't fit me.
